Huge!
Actually see how the top
sailors sail without going to a regatta. Click on the logo to the
left for more details. If you buy the CD-ROM after clicking on the
SailCoach logo District 5 receives a fee from SailCoach. It also covers
tactics and the psychology of winning (or not!)
webMaster comment: Video could be better quality but worth the money. |

Huge!
Its no use learning the technique unless you can put it into
action. The author of the book on the left, Dr Michael Blackburn,
is who is one the worlds top laser sailors. If you want to
compete with the good guys, you need to get fit. The book covers fitness
and nutrition and shows you how plan your fitness.
Click on the picture on the left and order the book from ILCA NA Region office. Fred will be happy to send you a copy. |

Available from the ILCA NA Region office at 5205 Beacon Drive, Austin TX 78734 $22
Cdn Includes shipping in NA Region. Available only to Laser Class members. Sorry, no credit cards or invoices - checks only to "Laser Class". |
A video by Luther Carpenter the US Sailing Association Laser coach. It is a one hour compilation of the best Laser video he has taken while coaching top athletes. Excellent shots of Laser sailing in a breeze. Includes Laser World Champion Robert Scheidt sailing in Sydney and Savannah, Nik Burfoot and Hamish Pepper on a breezy San Francisco Bay, Nick Adamson and Andy Lovell training in Savannah and training scenes from the Corpus Christi clinic. Limited commentary and notes. Check out the rocking and rolling and see if you think its illegal. |

Make your own hiking bench and use it! |
$20 max |
Huge! You can't be competitive in a laser in wind (especially in District 5 where you can't sail enough to get properly hiking fit) unless you start the season off with maximum fitness. This is the only way to build up endurance for straight legged hiking. |

Benefit
= small but useful Helps with low friction for ropes and spars Keeps tell tales from sticking to sails Easier to get that centreboard up Check out the Sailkote from McLube website for info on how can be of benefit on a Laser. Basically its a low friction dry coating. Great for ropes and spars but there is some potential risk of it being illegal as a hull and foil coating. |

Tiller $160 US 48" Extension $79 US Total = Approx $350 CDN OUCH! |
Benefit, medium, but I wouldn't do with out it. If you are short of cash, get the tiller extension first. Go for a long one (54"), you can always shorten it. Make sure it's a tight fit in the rudder head. Crimp the head together with a vice grip to ensure a tight fit, then spray some Sailkote on it to make sure you can get it apart again. |
|
| 135 Pounds | Use
when you are training by yourself and to check how fast you are
tacking. Another use is to use it to check currents in a racing
area. Go out prior to the regatta with a small anchor and check
the real currents. A great idea to get an edge on the big
championship.
Read your boat speed in boat lengths per minute. Change your sheeting and watch yourself gain a boat length or two per minute. Recommended by Ben Ainslie. I'm tempted to ask for this for this Christmas Benefit = unknown. But, what the heck, its a neat toy and you can play with it in your bath until sailing season starts again! |

Essential
on open water and big lakes.
In North America ask for the Nexus, outside of North America its a Silva. |
|
Invented and sold by Steve Cockerill of Rooster Sailing in
England. Used by Ainslie, Blackburn, Moberg, and Keeldude.
Fred says its a worthwhile purchase - Nuff
said! steve_cockerill@compuserve.com Steve also sells his own carbon fibre tillers at around the same
price as the Acme one above. |
20 Pounds | Benefit sometimes huge. How many times have you had that mainsheet end up in big knot at the windward mark? More than once, I'd bet. Your webMaster had this happen at the 1999 D22 champs and lost a place on the last run in one race trying to undo the knot. Guess what? He came second overall by 3/4 pt!!!. |

Hard Plastic Case for Blades
Contico Bow case No. 5221
|
$75 CDN | Call
up your local archery store and ask them if they have a Contico bow
case. Its made to withstand the rigours of airline travel.
Just check those pesky blades. The case is 53" long and will
take a 48" Acme carbon fibre tiller extension along with the rudder
and centreboard. The case is six inches deep so lots of room for
both blades. You need to buy some foam to customize the case
for blades instead of bows and arrows.
Its cheaper than a blade bag!!!! |
